The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the most important traditional celebrations in Chinese culture. Each year, our Mandarin Team organizes a variety of cultural activities to help students learn Chinese while experiencing the richness of Chinese traditions.

This year, KS1 students enjoyed a hands-on activity making adorable paper rabbits. Inspired by the enchanting legend of Chang'e flying to the moon with her jade rabbit, the children created round, plump bunnies that they absolutely adored. Meanwhile, KS2 students crafted colorful paper mooncakes. Our Mandarin teacher then used these creations to decorate a “mooncake tree” filled with vibrant paper treats—it looked absolutely fantastic!

Additionally, this week, our Year 3 students confidently performed in assembly after weeks of preparation. They began by introducing themselves in Chinese, followed by a heartfelt recitation of “明月几时有” (How Long Will the Full Moon Appear?), a classical Chinese poem written over 900 years ago expressing deep wishes for loved ones. They also sang the Mid-Autumn themed song “月儿圆” (The Moon Is Round), accompanied by graceful hand movements.

We are so proud of our students’ enthusiasm and creativity in embracing Chinese language and culture!
